Sur Fly Fishing
About us
Tradition, experience, and Patagonian hospitality. Sur Fly Fishing is a family business founded in San Martín de los Andes. Over three decades of accompanying Argentine and foreign fishermen to experience unique moments in the rivers and lakes of the south.
We provide a professional, safe, and personalized service, guided by experts officially authorized by the Lanín National Park and the Province of Neuquén.
Our founder
I am Eduardo Furlong, a Professional Sport Fishing Guide since 1990, authorized by the Lanín National Park and the Province of Neuquén.
I started in the year 84, seeking knowledge of Rivers and the Lanín National Park. That passion transformed into a vocation: to teach, share, and conserve.
As president of the Fishing Guides Association of Neuquén, I participated in the legal recognition of the guides and today I collaborate in the training of new generations with the National University of Comahue.

Chimehuin River

Junín de los Andes
Junín of
the Andes
Junín de los Andes
The Chimehuin River is one of the most iconic rivers in the world for fly fishing, famous for its wild trout of excellent quality and for the waters that come from Lake Huechulafquen.
It is divided into three main sections:
Upper: fast and turbulent waters, home to large browns and rainbows.
Middle: passes through Junín de los Andes, with calmer waters, long runs, and excellent conditions for nymphs, dries, and streamers.
Lower: crystal-clear waters, pocket waters, and abundant insect and fish activity.
During November and December, the flow increases, and extreme caution is recommended when wading.
The key to a good day is to read the water well and choose the right fly according to shape, size, and color.
The Chimehuin ends its course at the confluence with the Collón Curá River, completing a legendary fishing circuit in Patagonia.

Malleo River
The Malleo River originates in Lake Tromen, near the border with Chile, and flows into the Aluminé River. It is a typical mountain river, medium-sized and highly productive, ideal for rods between #3 and #5.
Famous for its multiple fly fishing opportunities, including dry flies, nymphs, and small streamers, it is perfect for both experienced and beginner anglers.
Its clear and accessible waters allow for easy wading and enjoyment of classic fishing in picture-perfect settings. Among the most well-known spots are Puente Amarillo (Chiquilihuin), Puesto Paja, the nearby campgrounds, and access through the Mapuche Community of Painefilu.
The secret to success in the Malleo lies in choosing the right fly by following three keys: shape, size, and color.
